Thanks to the huge demand for eco-tourism, Chikmagalur has seen a mushrooming of resorts accompanied by heavy traffic inflow. Road widening in the mountains has often meant massive landslides and erosion. Akarsha B M stresses the need for a scientific understanding of the location and a proper assessment of its carrying capacity.

Govt. cancels lease granted to wind energy firm at BB Hills

Putting an end to a decade-old dispute, the Deputy Commissioner of Chikmagalur has withdrawn the lease granted to a Chennai-based power generating company, M/s B B Hills Wind Farm Development Private Limited, at the ecologically sensitive Bababudangiri Hills.

Community hall in Bhadra reserve forest opposed

The villagers opposed the construction of a community hall near the main road at Muthodi zone of Bhadra Reserve Forest.

The authorities have dumped materials needed for the construction of community hall in reserve forest area. Few trees have been chopped to facilitate the construction work, which is clear violation of Wildlife Protection Act.
